The Pink Logs are
infatuated with the Twilight books and are counting down the minutes
until the release of the movie this Friday. After numerous attempts
at getting into the movie, security had to ban The Logs from the
movie set altogether. But, if The Logs were to be included in the
release, this is a glimpse of what the promotional materials would
have looked like.

Natalie Walker - Now or Never (Dorado)
Natalie Walker first
burst upon the scene as vocalist for Daughter
Darling, a trip-hop collective which also included the
Philadelphia-based brother team of producers Travis and Stephen
Vogelman. The resulting album, Sweet Shadows, earned a
nomination for "Best CD of 2003" at the Philly Music Awards. In
2006 Natalie opted to go the solo route and released her debut, Urban
Angel, to some rapturous reviews: "Be it
Natalie Walker's drowsy vocals or the elegant song constructions,
this album drifts by like whispers and drugs you with a hypnotic
undercurrent," said Billboard,
while at the time A&R Worldwide noted, "An artist like Natalie
Walker comes along only once in a great while." The Philadelphia
Weekly, meanwhile, was short and
sweet in its review: "Simply marvelous!" The album also struck a
chord with film/TV music supervisors: Sofia
Coppola used a Thievery
Corporation remix of "Quicksand"
in Marie Antoinette,
while other songs found their way onto "Ugly Betty" and "Grey's
Anatomy." Now Natalie has returned with her highly anticipated
second album, With You,
which came out on August 19 and is an elegant collection of hypnotic
soundscapes highlighted by the ethereal vocals of the blue-eyed
soulstress. Listen to "Now or Never" and discover other tunes

The Boat People - Awkward Orchid Orchard
The Boat People have been steadily building a name for themselves
Down Under ever since their formation on New Year's Eve 1999. Since
then they've released three critically acclaimed EPs, enjoyed high
rotation spins on a number of Australian radio stations and gathered
a variety of rave reviews (Rolling Stone enthused, "The Boat
People have steadily moved to the forefront of Australia's
indie-pop."). This heady praise was verified by the August 2005
release of The Boat People's first full-length album,
yesyesyesyesyes, which amply demonstrated the quartet's
superb songwriting abilities and witty genius. They've previously
opened for such internationally renowned acts as David
Byrne, The
Shins, Dogs
Die in Hot Cars and Idlewild,
as well as fellow Aussie natives Missy
Higgins and Evermore.
The group recently released their sophomore effort, Chandeliers,
which has received much praise; the Sydney Morning Herald, in
a four-star review, stated, "This is a second album carefully
balanced between the sheer pleasure of pop music and the wit of smart
songwriting. [The] songs have a casual elegance and a droll eye but
they are subordinate to what feels like real emotion, meaty playing
and tunes that constantly entertain. The Boat People are the real
deal." Check out the video to"Awkward Orchid Orchard" here and

KIWI HEROES BANG
BANG ECHE TOP SONG CHART: Coming out of nowhere to claim the top
spot on the Mediaguide Alternative Specialty Song chart is New
Zealand five-piece Bang Bang Eche, who parlayed a buzz-building
series of performances at CMJ in New York City last month to a No.1
showing for "4 on the Floor," a frenetic number in the vein of
the Rapture and the Faint. All the more impressive, the song comes
from their eponymous, self-released EP (which itself charts on the
Album end at No.6). The teenaged quintet from Christchurch drew some
rave reviews during the conference, with KEXP picking "4 on the
Floor" as "Song of the Day" and later deeming the group's
performance one of the five best of the entire conference; for more
info, surf on over to www.myspace.com/bangbangeche.
Not much other movement to report on the Song side this week, as last
week's pole sitter, Bloc Party, fell to No.2 with "One Month
Off"...but they were doubtless relieved by the 2-1 move on the
Album end for Intimacy (Atlantic). The only other debut in the
Top 10 on the Song chart this week belongs to New York indie rockers
Longwave, who bow at No.7 with "No Direction," helping
full-length Secrets are Sinister (Original Signal) to a No.10
spot on the Album index. Currently bubbling under on the Song chart
are Cold War Kids at No.13 with "I've Seen Enough" (Downtown),
rap-rockers Hollywood Undead right behind at No.14 with "Undead
(Out the Way)" (A&M/Octone) and California lads Roll the Tanks
at No.17 with "Police Me" (Intelligent Noise). Longtime holdovers
Eagles of Death Metal, Little Joy, the Decemberists and Glasvegas
continue to stay strong on the Song side, occupying the 3-6 positions
with "Wannabe in L.A.," "Keep Me in Mind," "Valerie Plame"
and "Geraldine," respectively.
