much that they returned there this week. Here you can see pictures of

Praying Hands -
Back To Black (Aceyboy)
Kevin Roentgen, the
driving force behind Praying Hands, is a true rock & roll
survivor. The Southern California native first entered the spotlight
with underground Hollywood rock sensations SOUL, who were signed to
EastWest/Elektra; alas, corporate skullduggery at the highest levels
resulted in their debut album not seeing a release. Undaunted,
Roentgen went on to form American
Pearl, which released a self-titled album through
Wind-up Records, toured extensively with acts like Creed
and 3
Doors Down and had a song featured on the best-selling
"Scream 3" OST. After that group had run its course, he signed on
with fellow SoCal natives Orson and ended up spending almost two
years in England, where the group enjoyed huge success with the
Mercury UK album Bright Idea and the single "No Tomorrow,"
both of which hit No.1 on the UK charts. Now, however, Roentgen has
returned to the project that was interrupted by his time in Orson:
Praying Hands, a venture which highlights his soulful, passionate
voice and understated, yet eloquent, acoustic playing. Inspired by
his time in London, Roentgen has now turned out this exquisite
acoustic interpretation of troubled diva Amy
Winehouse's "Back to Black." For further
information, surf on over to www.myspace.com/prayinghands,
where you can also hear songs from his excellent new album, Dogs
and Airplanes.

Wild Beasts - Brave Bulging Buoyant Clairvoyants (Domino Records)
Leeds, England-based quartet Wild Beasts easily walks away with this
month's "Best Song Title" award with "Brave Bulging Buoyant
Clairvoyants," an intoxicating and infectious number featuring the
soaring falsetto of singer/guitarist Hayden Thorpe over the hypnotic
backbeat and joyous guitars provided by his fellow "Beasts,"
guitarist Ben Little, bassist Tom Fleming and drummer Chris "Bert"
Talbot. The group signed with Bad Sneakers Records in August 2006,
which released the song that December to much acclaim: it won BBC
Radio Six DJ Steve Lamacq's "Rebel Playlist" in January 2007
and a month afterward the group signed on with Domino Records. In May
2007 the NME jumped on the bandwagon, listing Wild Beasts among "Ten
Bands Tipped for the Top." They recently released their debut
Domino album, Limbo, Panto, and during the month of October
will be sharing stages in the UK on multiple occasions with buzzin'
baby bands Foals
and Vampire
Weekend. In addition, the group will be performing at
the BBC Electric Proms alongside such stellar artists as The
Streets, Last
Shadow Puppets and XX
Teens on October 22 before a weeklong series of
continental European gigs in the Netherlands and France in November.

EAGLES OF DEATH
METAL GO BACK-TO-BACK: Ah, Los Angeles in October: searing heat,
the pervasive odor of the wildfires that are ringing the basin
clogging sinuses and seemingly causing the Dodgers to choke on bitter
ash, indeed, in game four against the Phillies; throw in the fact
that it's about time we were due for another shake, rattle and roll
experience via one of the myriad faultlines vivisecting the area and
one wonders why they came here in the first place (short answer:
shorts in January!). However, the grim litany recited above has
failed to deter the savvy minds behind the music on the Mediaguide
Alternative Specialty Panel, who for the second straight week make
Eagles of Death Metal's "Wannabe in L.A." (Rekords
Rekords/Downtown) the top dog on the Song chart, picking up enough
spins to also advance 3-2 on the Album index. Hot on the heels of the
SoCal desert warriors are the marvelously monikered Scots quartet
Glasvegas, who debut at No.2 on the Song side with the self-released
"Geraldine," which also picks up enough plays to bow at No.3 on
the Album end. Top o' the Album chart honors go to the brothers
Gallagher and their mates in Oasis, with Dig Out Your Soul
(Big Brother/Reprise) ascending to the top spot. Another impressive
debut this week for Stereophonics with "My Own Worst Enemy" at
No.3 on the Song chart, helping their new greatest hits collection,
Decade in the Sun (Fontana), earn a No.6 showing on the Album
index. The other top debut on the Song side this week belongs to
Brooklyn-based duo Matt and Kim, whose toe-tappin' ditty "Daylight"
(Green Label Sound) bows at No.8 on the Song side, garnering enough
plays to also check in at No.16 on the Album chart.
