The Temper Trap - "Sweet Disposition" (Liberation)
Following their
successful self-titled EP released two short years ago Melbourne,
Australia quartet The Temper Trap garnered rotation airplay on Triple
J (the national Alternative radio station) with the single "My Sun"
and drew favorable comparisons to such bands as Radiohead
and TV
on the Radio. Their intense, energetic live shows only
added to the buzz, earning them support slots with such international
artists as Modest
Mouse, Kasabian,
Cold
War Kids and The
Dears, complemented by placement on many festival
stages, including the V Festival, the Great Escape and the Laneway
Festival. Four months ago the foursome hooked up with producer Jim
Abbiss (Massive
Attack, Arctic
Monkeys, Kasabian) at Melbourne's famed Sing Sing
Studios to commence work on their debut album. The resulting effort,
which will be released in early 2009 through indie Liberation
Records, showcases an evolution in The Temper Trap's sound,
including songs embellished with waves of keys, strings and choirs.

The Streets - "Everything Is Borrowed" (679 Recordings/Vice Records)
The Streets, born Mike Skinner in Birmingham, England has been on the
musical scene since the beginning of the 21st Century.
Although he started making music at the age of 5, his first taste of
success was with The
Artful Dodger and Craig
David on a song called "Has It Come To This" which
was released in late 2000. After creating a huge indie buzz in many
countries, releasing three full-length albums and one EP, The Streets
has returned with "Everything Is Borrowed" which was recently
released on 679 Recordings/Vice Records on September 15th
featuring the single of the same name. Beats per millennium reviewed
the album and said "this is the best album he's ever written, and
if you don't mind a little (a lot) of introspection, it's well
worth your hard-earned money," and NME has boasted "it's more
polished, more intricate, but without losing any of that bedroom-made
charm. Skinner has consolidated everything he's done before,
chucked in where his head's at now and come up with an album that,
while lacking the visceral thrill of Original Pirate Material,
is a minor masterpiece that will mean a lot to a more select bunch of
people. It is, if you will, the Thinking Man's Streets Album."

WHERE THE STREETS
HAVE A NAME: That would be the Mediaguide Alternative Specialty
Panel, where the latest project from Brummy boy Mike Skinner, a.k.a.
The Streets, has been whole-heartedly embraced, with both the album
Everything is Borrowed (679/Vice) and its title track bowing
in the top spots of their respective charts. Skinner will be
supporting the album, which hit retail September 15, with a six-week
series of gigs in his native UK starting October 4, followed by a
three-week jaunt across the European continent. For further info,
check out www.myspace.com/thestreets.
The panel was also apparently shaken and stirred by "Another
Way to Die" (Third Man/J), the theme to the forthcoming James Bond
movie Quantum of Solace, written by Jack White and performed
by him and Alicia Keys. The first theme duet in the history of the
storied Bond franchise, the song debuts at No.2 on the Song chart and
picks up enough spins to also clock in at No.4 on the Album end. Last
week's No.1 song, Kings of Leon's "Sex on Fire," slips a bit
to No.3, just ahead of this week's third debut in the top four
songs: Eagles of Death Metal with "Wannabe in L.A." (Rekords
Rekords/Downtown), which also picks up enough plays to qualify at
No.9 on the Album index. It's the first taste of their forthcoming
album Heart On, which will be available October 28. The only
other Top 10 debut on the Song side this week belongs to The Killers
with "Human," which debuts at No.10 and just became available on
iTunes today (September 30). The song is the initial offering from
the Las Vegas lads' upcoming album Day & Age (Island),
which arrives just in time for the holiday season on November 25.
