Pink Logs

Fall fashion is in effect and who better to show off the latest styles on the catwalks? Along with the typical pencil-thin supermodels you see at every fashion show; The Pink Logs recently showcased new fashions as well as a few twigs in front of the elite designers of the fashion world in New York City. Pay close attention folks, because The Pink Logs tend to create trends wherever they may roam and what they wear and do today, will be "in" tomorrow.

PANIK - Was Würdest Du Tun ? (Vertigo/Universal)

Though they made their live debut a mere 18 months ago, Germany's Panik has already made quite a name for themselves around Europe, amassing passionate fan clubs in France, Russia, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Belarus, Holland, Belgium and, of course, Germany. The group received a helping hand from Bravo magazine and VIVA, Germany's equivalent of MTV. The sextet of 20 and 21 year olds, who sing solely in their native German and are often compared to Linkin Park. They were previously known as Nevada Tan and released their debut album, Niemand Hört Dich (Nobody Can Hear You) but in early 2008, though, after a dispute with their previous label and management, they changed their name to Panik because their former management had trademarked the name behind their backs. Undaunted, they released the video "Was Würdest du Tun?" ("What Would You Do?") under the new name and will be releasing their first full-length as Panik this fall. Check out the video here and learn more about the band at http://www.panik-musik.de/ but if you are having problems reading it in German, there's always www.myspace.com/panikmusik.

Chart Analysis

Chart Analysis ANOTHER FLIP-FLOP AT THE TOP: Not unlike a well-matched pair of fighters, Kings of Leon and TV on the Radio have been duking it out for the top spot on the Mediaguide Alternative Specialty Song chart for about a month now, with first the Followill clan, then the Brooklyn hipster mavens grabbing the pole position. This week it's Kings of Leon's turn, as "Sex on Fire" reclaims the top slot for the third time overall, while full-length Only by the Night (RCA) also ascends to the No.1 position on the Album end. TVOTR, meanwhile, drops from the top spot on the Album index with Dear Science (Touch and Go/Interscope), settling at No.5, while last week's No.1 song, "Dancing Choose," falls to No.4. Big move on the Song chart by Secret Machines, who leap 12-2 with "Atomic Heels," helping their TSM/World's Fair self-titled album to the same position on the Album index. Top debut honors on the Song side this week go to Foals with "Olympic Airways," which bows at No.3 and leads the way for their album, Antidotes (Transgressive/Sub Pop), to rebound to No.4 on the Album index. The only other song to debut in the Top 10 this week is "Never Miss a Beat" by Kaiser Chiefs, which enters the chart at No.8 and helps their ferociously titled new album, Off with Their Heads (B-Unique/Universal), to a No.18 showing on the Album end. Bubbling just off the radar on the Song side are M.I.A. with "Paper Planes" (XL/Interscope), which clocks in at No.14 this week; Birdmonster's "Heart of the Dead" (Fader Label) bows at No.16, while the memorably monikered Dead Confederate slips in at No.19 with "The Rat" (Razor & Tie).
