The Pink Logs
continue to be photographed with musicians this week as they are
shown here with Island Records (UK)/Modus Vivendi Music recording
artist, Sam
Sparro. The Logs were back up singers on Sam's
songs "Black & Gold" and "21st
Century Life" and during this meeting, they received a few royalty
checks. What will The Logs do with their newfound fortune? Check back
next week to find out how The Logs spend their fortune over Labor Day
weekend.
Tony Jensen, a.k.a.
"Jensen," started off his musical odyssey singing covers in an
R&B/Soul band that played venues throughout the UK and Europe. It
was during one of these jaunts that he started writing his own music
and, pleased with the early results, opted to take the plunge and go
solo. Now, little more than a year later, he's still playing those
same venues...but now with his own band and performing his own songs,
gaining fans with every show. Jensen has recently written and
recorded in Los Angeles with Marshall Altman, where his soulful and
honest vocal delivery was ably complemented by the expert
musicianship of Michael Chavez (John
Mayer), Phil Izler (Robbie
Williams) and Aaron Sterling. The songs themselves,
which are meditations on life, love and the feelings that affect us
all, are delivered devoid of stylistic inflections or vocal
gymnastics...just a natural vocal talent that showcases the songs and
leaves the listener wanting to hear more. Check out "Someone Like
Me" and other songs from his EP.
Although
he was born in London, Simon Collins has called Vancouver home for
the last eight years. Collins is a singer/songwriter who also plays
drums and the piano. His influences range from Depeche
Mode to Coldplay,
from Pink
Floyd to Massive
Attack and
Genesis
to Peter
Gabriel. In his video for "Powerless," Simon takes
you on a tour of East Hastings Street in Vancouver, known to the
locals as "The War Zone." Collins wanted to show his ode to
suffering drug addicts who are falling on hard times. The album
U-Catastrophe, his first US album, was released last week on
Razor & Tie and features his father, Phil
Collins on drums on "The Big Bang" and original
Genesis guitarist Steve
Hackett on
"Fast Forward The Future." For more information on Simon Collins,

COLD WAR KIDS TAKE
LONG WAY TO THE TOP: A wise philosopher once remarked, "It's
a long way to the top if you wanna rock and roll"...a sentiment
that can surely be appreciated by Long Beach, California natives Cold
War Kids, who spent three consecutive weeks at No.2 on the Mediaguide
Alternative Specialty Song chart with "Something Is Not Right with
Me" before finally ascending to the top spot this week. Better yet,
they repeated the feat on the Album end, as forthcoming full-length
Loyalty to Loyalty (Downtown, out to retail September 23) also
achieves the pole position after two weeks at No.2. The quartet will
be performing on Wednesday, August 27 at the Democratic National
Convention in Denver prior to launching a tour in support of the
album on September 20 at San Diego's Street Scene; full dates can
be found at www.myspace.com/coldwarkids.
Kings of Leon move 4-2 on the Song side with "Sex on Fire,"
helping propel Only by the Night (RCA) 6-3 on the Album end in
its second week on the chart. Returning to No.2 on the Album index is
Beck's Modern Guilt (Interscope), which manages to do so
without a single tune ranking in the Top 20 on the Song chart,
proving the panel is enjoying the diversity of the disc. Top debut
honors on the Song chart this week go to Canadian quintet The Stills,
who bow at No.3 with "Being Here," helping full-length Oceans
Will Rise (Arts & Crafts) to a No.4 showing on the Album
index. The only other song to enjoy a Top 10 bow this week is "Lost
Coastlines," which enters the chart at No.9 for Texas septet
Okkervil River and helps The Stand Ins (Jagjaguwar, September
9) to a No.19 placement on the Album end.
PINK LOGS FOR PRESIDENT 2008
In an unheard amount of online support from voters, the Pink Logs have managed to do something
other candidates can only dream of. While it may seem unusual to vote for Pink Logs,
it conveys the current atmosphere people have with the current choices of candidates. While
it started off somewhat as a joke, it has turned into a phenomena. Check out the video
to see what it's all about.
