The latest journey with The Pink Logs has taken us to the heart of Hollywood. These photos were sent to us by a tourist from Chicago, who was lucky enough to stalk...er, watch The Logs for an afternoon. The Logs were spotted at Mann's Chinese Theatre, looking over at the El Capitan, in the middle of the Hollywood & Highland complex and driving their "Smart Cart."

Hey Ocean! - A Song
About California (Unsigned)
Hailing from the
gorgeous environs of Vancouver, Canada is Hey Ocean!, a four-piece
featuring vocalist/flutist Ashleigh Ball, guitarist/vocalist David
Beckingham, bassist Dave Vertessi and drummer Dan Klenner. Ball and
Beckingham have a longstanding musical relationship and that rapport
is obvious in their mesmerizing melodies and clever lyrical wordplay.
The quartet released their first album, Stop Looking like Music,
in 2006 and swiftly became one of Western Canada's most popular
touring acts, sharing stages with the likes of Bedouin
Soundclash, Xavier
Rudd, Sarah
Harmer and Wintersleep,
winning over fans young and old with their onstage charisma, playful
demeanor and passionate music. This spring they self-released their
sophomore effort, It's Easier to Be Someone Else, including
the tune "A Song about California," a bouncy, jazz-inflected
piece of pop that can't help but get toes a-tappin'. In regards
to the new album, the Herohill blog in Halifax, Canada, noted,
"Ashleigh Ball's great vocals and nice hooks could fuel more
beach parties than a Frankie and Annette sing-along." The music of
Hey Ocean! also contains elements of several world music genres,
inspired by the three years Beckingham spent in Kenya and the other
bandmembers' travels in Central America, Asia and Europe.

The Music - Strength
In Numbers (Polydor)
Formed
in the Leeds, England area in 1999 while the four members were still
in school, by 2001 BBC Radio One DJ Steve Lamacq was hailing The
Music as "the best unsigned band in Britain," sparking a bidding
war that was won by England's Hut Recordings, which released the
group's debut EP, You Might As Well
Try to F*** Me, in early 2001. The
EP spurred the NME
to describe them as "potentially the most important group since
Oasis." Capitol Records won a fierce battle for the group's North
American rights and released their eponymous debut in February 2003
(it had already been released in the UK several months before,
peaking at No.4 on the album chart). Despite the best efforts of
Capitol, who paired them with labelmates Coldplay
for a two-month American tour when their second album came out,
Welcome to the North,
The Music never really caught on in the States (though they remained
wildly popular in the UK). After taking two years off to sort
themselves out and signing with a new label (Polydor), The Music is
now returning with a refreshed attitude and third album, Strength
in Numbers, which the NME
has hailed as "A cause for celebration!"

THE VERVE GETS THE
DOUBLE: After a week away from the top spot--they fell all the
way down to No.2--recently reconstituted Alt act The Verve regains
the pole position on the Mediaguide Alternative Specialty Song chart
this week with "Love is Noise." Adding to the sweet taste of
success is the fact that the album from which the song comes, Four
(On Our Own), repeats the feat on the Album index, rising to the
top slot for the first time. Meanwhile, last week's No.1 song, "The
Geeks Were Right" from the Faint, stays strong at No.2--the same
slot held on the Album end by full-length Fasciinatiion
(blank.wav). Nashville's Be Your Own Pet remains at No.3 with
"Becky," helping their Get Damaged EP (XL) stay at No.5 on
the Album chart. Top debut honors on the Song side this week go to
local Long Beach heroes Cold War Kids, who bow at No.5 with
"Something Is Not Right with Me," the first single from the
forthcoming Loyalty to Loyalty album (due in stores September
23 from Downtown Records). The lads will be playing in Australia and
Europe in August preparatory to mounting an American tour in support
of the album in September. The only other Top 10 debuts on the Song
chart this week belong to a pair of acts that enjoyed great success
in the '90s but then fell under the radar: Manchester, England
favorite sons James return at No.9 with "Waterfall," from their
upcoming album Hey Ma (Decca). They're joined in the Top 10
by the rulers of "Possum Kingdom" themselves, Texas trio Toadies,
who triumphantly return to the airwaves with "No Deliverance,"
the title track from the forthcoming album of the same name
(Kirtland), which lands at No.10.
