Now that it's summertime, The Pink Logs have decided to take a vacation and
head to the beach. There is nothing more relaxing then catching some waves
and rays and no better place to do it, than the beaches of Hawaii.
Unfortunately, one of the logs got burned. I guess SPF300 wasn't good enough!

Topher Mohr -
Killer (Unsigned)
"All good music can
be traced to Detroit," singer/songwriter Topher Mohr told TRACE
magazine in September, 2006. And he would know, having grown up
in the college town of Ann Arbor, Michigan, a mere hop, skip and jump
from the town that produced everything from the MC5 and Motown sound
to Iggy
Pop, Kid
Rock and Eminem.
His first exposure to music came at age seven, when he started
playing violin; he switched to trumpet a few years later and picked
up a guitar while in high school, whereupon he was first exposed to
the music of Led
Zeppelin and Jimi
Hendrix--which forever altered his perception of
music. In late 2001 he relocated to New York City and landed a gig
playing guitar for Custom, who enjoyed a minor hit with the song "Hey
Mister" in 2002. Alas, the band broke up before the tour began and
Topher spent a year cooling his heels at home in Ann Arbor before
returning to the Big Apple in late 2003, intent on forging a
brand-new sound encompassing elements of hip-hop, electro and garage
rock, telling TRACE, "I think Snow
Patrol, Muse
and OutKast
are great examples of that." Topher is getting ready to go on a 50
city tour this summer, kicking off in Buffalo, NY on June 21st
and ends in September. Check out tour dates and more

4LYN - Hello
(Rodeostar)
The German foursome
known as 4LYN has made some serious strides since forming shortly
after the dawn of the 21st Century. They've released five charting,
well-received albums (2008's Hello being the latest from
Germany's Rodeostar Records), along with a slew of successful
singles. They've toured the length and breadth of Europe with such
stars as Papa
Roach, Thumb
and Therapy?--including
a July 2006 gig in exotic Istanbul, Turkey, as sole support act for
Guns 'N
Roses. Half a dozen of their music videos have
received prominent airplay from a variety of sources, including MTV
Europe, VIVA, VIVA Plus, NBC GIGA and many more. They've made
numerous appearances on European television, including MTV Select and
"Top of the Pops." They contributed a song, "Me vs. Me," to
the top action movie of 2002, the Vin Diesel vehicle "XXX"
("Triple X"), and also had their tune "Kisses of a Strobelight"
chosen for a worldwide television campaign by French auto maker
Renault. 4LYN is currently receiving US radio support from WKQX
Chicago, KUPD Phoenix, and KTCL Denver.
To
make the video for "Hello (For You I'm Dying)" the band went on
a trip through the endless deserts in Joshua Tree and got four of the
world's best dirt bikers to join them for the video shoot. Vocalist
Ron Cazzato states, "A big song needs an equal video and "Hello
(For You I'm Dying)" just is a big song."

DIFF'RENT STROKES
FOR DIFF'RENT FOLKS: Anyone else remember when the Strokes were
hailed as the saviors of rock & roll? This writer certainly never
bought into the hype...but with hindsight being 20/20, it's easy to
now see that even the Beatles would have had a difficult time living
up to the over-the-top rhapsodizing that accompanied the arrival of
Julian Casablancas and Co. However, for the last couple years the
bandmembers have wisely been laying somewhat low...until this week,
that is, when individual members of the group claimed both the No.1
and No.2 spots on the Mediaguide Alternative Specialty Song chart.
First up, guitarist Albert Hammond, Jr. grabbed the pole position
with "GFC," from his forthcoming sophomore solo effort, Come
Te Llama (Black Seal), which itself reached No.4 on the Album
end. The album hits streets and cyberspace July 8 and Hammond will be
celebrating three days later with a performance at L.A.'s Spaceland
club prior to jaunting overseas for a series of shows in Australia
and Japan. Meanwhile, aforementioned vocalist Casablancas is part of
an all-star grouping that grabbed the No.2 position, teaming with
Santogold and N.E.R.D. for "My Drive Thru," the first song
released by sneaker company Converse as they celebrate 100 years in
business. The song picked up enough spins to also rank at No.5 on the
Album index. Last week's Song chart leader, My Morning Jacket with
"Touch Me I'm Going to Scream Part II," tumbled all the way
down to No.18 this week...but that's only because the panel opted
to celebrate the first week in stores for full-length Evil Urges
(ATO) by diving deeper into an album that keeps growing better with
each listen, pushing it all the way to the top spot on the Album end.
First week sales totaled almost 50,000, which was good enough for MMJ
to earn their first-ever Top 10 album at No.9.
