Every now and then
The Pink Logs are invited to movie sets for cameo appearances.
Usually, the movie is released and The Pink Logs never seem to have
made it on the big screen...until now. If you saw the #1 movie this
weekend, Sex And The City, then you would have caught the different
scenes that The Logs were featured. The Pink Logs are one step closer
to getting their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame now.

| Laurie Gail |
Laurie Gail/Director
East Coast Label & Radio Relations, Play
MPE
Give
us a brief career history.
Laurie Gail
is the Director of East Coast Label and Radio Relations at Play MPE.
Laurie began her career in radio at
New York's WLIR upon graduating from Hofstra University. A native
Bostonian, she spent 10 years as Music Director at Boston's flagship
alternative radio station WFNX, along with farming out her talents as
a DJ to many area nightclubs. Post-radio, Laurie worked at Clear
Channel's Instant
Live,
touring with Kiss,
The
Allman Brothers Band,
and more. She also acted as Music Supervisor on compilation CDs for
retail promotions. In addition, Laurie wrote a beauty column for
former Boston daily newspaper BostonNOW and serves as a fashion
stylist and makeup artist for music video shoots.
How
did you discover Play MPE?
I
discovered Play MPE when I was consulting for the company that Play
MPE was first working with, and then called Promo Only MPE. I
first started working part time; it became a full time gig when
Destiny Media Technologies took over in 2007, changing the name to
Play MPE.
Describe
Play MPE and its purpose for someone who isn't familiar with the
company.
Play
MPE provides a digital delivery service for the record companies to
get their music and video to radio programmers, journalists,
industry, etc. Play MPE provides broadcast quality files, both
standard and HD (high definition) WAV audio files. What is
especially convenient about Play MPE is that it provides one central
place where the users can go to get all of the music the labels are
sending out.
How
does Play MPE stand out from other companies trying to do similar
things?
Play
MPE stands out from other companies in that we provide the highest
audio quality WAV files available, we're extremely visible and we
have serviced by far the most amount of content. We have the highest
user installation base at over 21,000 users.
Tell
us about the latest deals that Play MPE had made with various record
labels.
Play
MPE continues to sign labels to our service. With recent exclusive
digital servicing deals like Curb and other long-term agreements like
KOCH, Play MPE is becoming the industry standard for digital
delivery. While there are other services out there, we have both the
labels and radio stations that matter to the industry.
Let's
pretend you have a magic wand and can change three things in the
music business. What would they be and why?
One
thing I would change is to get rid of CD pros completely. While
the industry has embraced digital delivery, there are still
individuals out there that are resistant to change. It costs
the labels a fortune to send out CD pros and they are ending up in
landfills throughout the world. It is a major environmental issue
and Play MPE is a "Go Green" solution since everything is
digital.

Sam Sparro - 21st
Century Life
Sam Sparro is creating
quite a buzz around the Los Angeles area with his classic old school
disco/soul sound; the Los Angeles Times gave him perhaps the
ultimate compliment for a singer in this genre, hailing his sound as
"Think Marvin
Gaye gone disco electro." Born in Sydney, Australia,
the 24-year-old crooner moved to Los Angeles with his parents, both
musicians, at age 10 and shortly thereafter started singing in
Baptist choirs. As a teenager he moved back to Australia for a few
years before relocating to London for awhile, returning to Los
Angeles several years back to hammer out his singular sound. Modus
Vivendi Music label head Jesse Rogg discovered Sparro at a local club
and not only signed the young singer, but also produced his first
effort, the Black & Gold EP, which inspired Radar magazine
to rhapsodize, "Sam Sparro's electrofunk can definitely make for
a party." In April, his song "Black & Gold" hit No.2 on the
UK singles chart, just before the talented funkster joined Mark
Ronson onstage at the Coachella Festival. Now Sparro
hopes to replicate that success with his next effort, "21st
Century Life." Check out more on Sam Sparro log on to

Katy Perry "I Kissed
A Girl" (Capitol)
Let's face it, she's
everywhere. She's on The
Vans Warp Tour this summer; Blender magazine calls her
"the next big thing;" she was featured in the "Cupid's
Chokehold" video by Gym
Class Heroes, her music has been featured in The
Hills, Oxygen Network's Fight Girls and the soundtrack
to the film Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Oh, did
we forget to mention that her latest tune is Madonna's
current favorite song? Who is this beautiful 22 year-old from Santa
Barbara, CA? Ladies and gentlemen, we'd like to introduce you to
Katy Perry, now play nice. Katy teamed up with Glen
Ballard (Alanis
Morrisette) when she was just 17 and have been
fine-tuning her music ever since. The result was Chairman & CEO
of Capitol Music Group, Jason Flom, signing her in the Spring of
2007. Her first single, "Ur So Gay" had the buzz of a chainsaw
and helped pave a path for "I Kissed A Girl," not to be confused
with the Jill
Sobule hit from the 90s. Radio can't get enough of
her; strong support from every format including Alternative, Modern
A/C, Top 40 and Rhythmic. The album is scheduled for retail in
mid-June, until then, check out the video here and see why the world
is falling in love with Katy Perry.

THE CURE STAGE
BACK-TO-BACK CHART ATTACK: That's right, Robert Smith and his
band of not-so-merry men once again head the Mediaguide Alternative
Specialty Song chart, as "The Only One (Mix 13)"
(Suretone/Geffen) enjoys a second week atop the chart, picking up
enough play to also place at No.4 on the Album end of things. Kinda
makes you wonder what the first 12 mixes sound like, no? The Cure
barely held off another fabled Alt-rocker with a new release: Beck's
"Chemtrails" bows at No.2 on the Song side, propelling
forthcoming full-length Modern Guilt (Interscope), which
doesn't yet have an official release date, to a No.4 showing on the
Album end. Remaining strong at No.3 on the Song chart is My Morning
Jacket with "Touch Me I'm Going to Scream Part II," helping
full-length Evil Urges (ATO) remain in the Top 10 on the Album
end at No.8. After somewhat obsessively listening to the MySpace
stream of Evil Urges four times on the first day it was
posted, this writer is convinced that this could be the album that
finally launches vocalist/guitarist Jim James and cohorts into the
stratosphere of well-deserved musical superstardom. Check it out for
yourself at www.myspace.com/mymorningjacket,
or pick up the album once it hits the streets and cyberspace next
Tuesday, June 10. Back to the charts, there was a pair of impressive
showings on the Song side from self-released artists: UK act the
Wombats hit No.9 with "Let's Dance to Joy Division," while
hotly tipped electro-funkster Sam Sparro (see above) bows at No.10
with "Black and Gold." Speaking of electro mavens, topping the
Album index this week is Ladytron with Velocifero (Nettwerk),
with the majority of airplay being claimed by "Ghosts," which is
No.5 on the Song side.
