Now that March Madness is over, The Pink Logs thought it would be fun to
celebrate Opening Week with some of their favorite baseball players.
Unfortunately, it got a bit violent when one of the logs went straight for
Barry Bonds' head in a clear intentional foul. Mr. Bonds wasn't even
officially playing for a team, but wanted to prove that he could still hit a
homer without any...additional vitamins. Barry wasn't hurt or questioned for
any substances either. Alyssa Milano just wanted to be photographed and we
allowed it for obvious reasons.

Jon DeVoto
with hushhush ATTACK's Little Sara |
Jon DeVoto -
Guitarist/Singer - The Matches
What does your
"On Tour Survival Kit" consist of?
I bring lots of socks
and underwear. I wake up and put on new underwear then I work out and
get sweaty so I have to change it, then I play a show and get sweaty
so I change again. I go through like 3 pairs a day. I also bring a
bunch of Clif Bars and enough books to last me the whole tour. I
haven't been able to read much for the last few weeks since I've
been picking up my guitar in my downtime.
What do you do to
get psyched up for your performances?
I have to stretch for
20 minutes so I don't hurt myself. I do vocal warm ups that I'm
sure sound pretty strange to someone who doesn't know what I'm up
to. Then I warm up on the guitar so I don't pull a finger muscle.
Have you pulled a
finger muscle before?
Yes! I pulled my ring
finger during the Warped Tour last year. It hurt every time I played
and wouldn't get better since I kept using it. I also recently
broke my toe...it's taking forever to heal because I'm up on
stage going all out every night.
Your 3rd
album A Band In Hope just came
out, how amped are you?
We are thrilled about
it! It's been a year and a half in the making. It was actually
ready 3 or 4 months ago and we were like, 'okay let's put it out
now' but our label said we had to start promoting it for a few
months before we could. We've been playing some of our new songs at
the shows for about 3 months to give fans a taste.
Rumor has it that
the album was originally planned as a "sister album" to
Decomposer which was released in
2006. What's the story behind it?
Well, we never really
stopped recording after Decomposer. We just kept recording
between tours. But it took a long time to complete. We don't take a
6 month break to record like some bands do.
So were any of
the songs on A Band In Hope
recorded at the same time as Decomposer?
Yeah, actually 2 of
them were. We were really happy with the songs but they just didn't
fit with the rest of the album (Decomposer) so we held on to
them.
If you could open
for/play with any band in the world, who would it be?
The Beatles just so I
could seem them play live together. Also, Snoop Dogg, MUSE, Jay- Z
and Tom Waits...I don't think we'd go over well with their crowds
at all but I'd like to do it so I would get to see them live.
What's
the coolest thing a fan has ever given you?
Let's
see, I can tell you the strangest thing. A fan from Japan was at one
of our LA shows and brought me a shoebox diorama
of snowmen that was inspired by my guitar solos. I think the music
may have been lost in translation.
What's
the most exciting place you have visited on tour?
Australia. I
love it there. I want to move there. Everybody is so nice. Also
Croatia, but I was young at the time, 18, and I wish I would have
appreciated it more.
Would
you rather have to open for Britney Spears on her (inevitable)
comeback tour, or make an appearance in the new High School Musical
movie?
I don't
even know what High School musical is, I haven't seen it. I'd
assume it's about a high school musical. I'd choose Britney
Spears so I could see crazy shit go down.

special place in my heart.

Stealing Love Jones
"Kicks" (Sheer Music)
Stealing Love Jones
is a quartet from Durban, South Africa, composed of three gents
and a femme fatale, all bearing the last name "Jones," a la
the Ramones. Vocalist "Miss Jones," a.k.a. Esjay Jones, was
previously offered a solo deal in the States but, due to visa
difficulties, had to regretfully turn it down. After returning to
South Africa and forming Love Jones in early 2005, Esjay was
contacted by Sarah Bettens, former vocalist for indie darlings K's
Choice, who offered the opportunity for Stealing Love
Jones to open for Bettens at the world-famous Viper Room in West
Hollywood; alas, a lack of timing didn't allow them to fill out the
voluminous paperwork required for the trip, leading them to once
again regretfully decline the invite. Undaunted, the group set up its
own label, We Love Jones Forshore Records, with Esjay taking on the
role of label head and visiting a variety of radio stations in order
to secure airplay. Mission accomplished: first single
"Kicks" was
a smash on South African radio, prompting tabloid SA Music to
exclaim, "Esjay's voice burns left-field rock hardness into their
ingeniously arranged, super stadium-rock ballads." Stealing Love
Jones just finished a brief US tour with dates that included New
York, Los Angeles, Chicago and more. They are currently working on
their next album which they hope to release in the fall.

HushPuppies - Bad
Taste And Gold On The Doors (I Want My Kate Moss) (Diamond Traxx)
The best way to promote
an album is to go on the road. For their first album release, that's
exactly what the HushPuppies did-they scheduled nearly one hundred
stops before releasing their first album, The Trap. Even
though their second full-length release is called Silence is
Golden, the five Frenchmen are creating a loud enough buzz about
"wanting their Kate Moss" that it's caught the ears of radio
tastemakers in the UK, Japan, Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland,
Italy and now the US. Influenced by The
Kinks and The
Who, the HushPuppies' track "Bad Taste And Gold On
The Doors (I Want My Kate Moss) is lighting up request lines wherever
it's being played. Additional information is available in French
and English on http://www.hushpuppiestheband.com/

ARRESTED
DEVELOPMENT: Fortunately, that isn't the case for Saddle
Creek's Tokyo Police Club, which is developing quite nicely, thank
you, as evidenced by a 4-1 chart leap this week to claim the top spot
on the Mediaguide Alternative Specialty Song chart with "Tessellate,"
the initial release from the Canadian quartet's highly anticipated
full-length debut, Elephant Shell (in stores April 22 and
available online now). The song picks up enough spins to also clock
in at #2 on the Album end...where it trails only the new one from the
Raconteurs, Consolers of the Lonely (Third Man/Warner Bros.),
which slides up from the No.2 slot last week. After a week of
indecision--despite last week's No.2 album showing for Jack White
and the lads, not a single track cracked the Top 20 on the Song
side--the Specialty panel seems to have settled on "Salute Your
Solution," which boasts the highest debut on that chart this week
at No.3. The group will be on tour in support of the album for the
majority of the next two months, culminating in a performance at this
year's Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival on June 13. For further
info, check out www.theraconteurs.com. Also boasting an impressive
debut on the Song side this week is Goldfinger at #4 with "One More
Time," first offering from the album Hello Destiny
(SideOneDummy), which hits stores April 22. While we're quite sure
Goldfinger frontman John Feldmann is sick of hearing it, we'll say
it one last time: Boy, do we miss Electric Love Hogs! Now that we've
outed ourselves as being on the Hollywood scene for far too long,
back to the charts: kudos to These New Puritans, who enjoy a pair of
Top 10 debuts this week: the UK act bows at No.6 on the Song side
with "Elvis," assisting full-length Beat Pyramid (Domino)
to a No.8 showing on the Album end.
