Let's
face it; The Pink Logs aren't going away. In fact, they have been
seen nearly everywhere lately collecting thousands of air miles. As
they continue their vacation, they left Japan and headed to Southern
California for a fun day at Disneyland. Where The Pink Logs end up
next is anyone's guess, but if you happen to see them and get a
chance to take a picture, please alert hushhush ATTACK! immediately.

Katyea
McIntosh - XO Publicity
Please
give a brief career overview.
I
began my illustrious career in sales as the Manager of Kenny Shoes at
Castleton Square Mall in Indianapolis. I had a talent for networking,
as indicated by my success in scoring free food at the food court -
big shout out to Pretzel Time and Penn Station. I up sold shoelaces
and polish and my UPTs were off the charts. So, I realized that I had
a bright future in something...probably not shoes...but something
equally important. From there, I charmed my way through Indiana
University - negotiating my GPA and demonstrating school spirit to
end all spirits. Out of college I got a job in college marketing with
a Fortune 500 that will remain nameless due to the addictive nature
of the products it sells. After I burned out on the Rodeo and NASCAR
events, I decided to stay in my new home of Portland, Oregon. A job
in music presented itself at the Kinko's one day. Blaugh.
Publicity.
How
did you get introduced to booking and publicity?
Kinko's.
Describe
XO publicity.
Damn
fine PR firm. Damn fine ladies. Damn lots of fun. Damn those
clients. Just a big 'ol family!
What
were the initial goals for creating XO publicity?
To
support the underdogs, independent musicians, independent record
labels. Christ. Anyone who's broke. Giving them all the same
opportunities in press as ones that are rolling in dough.
What
are some of the challenges you face with publicity?
Challenges?!
Driving and talking on my Blackberry.
How
do you feel the music industry is growing and/or regressing?
I
believe that the digital movement will do nothing but make
independent musicians more accessible and more able to get their
music in more hands. Digital music is more green and sustainable so
it benefits the global community better, too.
What
is your favorite accomplishment to date?
Having
editors from magazines and my clients speak highly of the work
that we do. The fact that I've been referred to as "the best
damned follow up writer in the business" was some pretty flattering
feedback.
Please
confirm something we heard around the office. Were you in Maxim
magazine? If so, give up the details!
Yes. Maxim
is a high gloss monthly distributed national magazine with great
stories.

There's
no shortage of great music emanating from across the globe,
especially from the South Pacific in New Zealand. We recently came
across the latest edition of the Phase Five CD (Volume 10), which
includes a smorgasbord of great new sounds (unsigned, unpublished,
ready for radio and synch, etc.). If you haven't received your
copy, email joe@hushhushattack.com
and we'll take care of you.
SHIHAD
- "One Will Hear The Other": It's hard to believe that
Shihad, whose music still sounds as fresh and vital as evidenced by
their latest single, "One Will Hear The Other," are approaching
their 20th anniversary as a band. Although it does help to put it in
perspective to remember that they were just a group of metal-obsessed
schoolboys when they made their debut back in 1988! Shihad's
upcoming album, Beautiful
Machine,
sees the quartet continue to meld anthemic melodies onto thunderous
riffs in a formula that has made them heroes to almost two
generations in NZ and Australia. www.shihad.com
THE
COSHERCOT HONEYS
- "We're All Lions": Since teenage cavemen first began
banging sticks on rocks, musical hotbeds have often been intensely
localized affairs...and it's possible that at the end of the first
decade of this millennium we might be forced to recognize Auckland's
North Shore as one of the best. The first teen rockers out of the
blocks were The
Checks,
but this scene also counts The
Veils
and young up-and-comers White
Birds
and
Lemons
and The
Electric Confectionaires
in its jurisdiction, and now the latest to emerge are the Coshercot
Honeys. "We're All Lions" is a Doors-like excursion into
brilliantly kooky psychedelia. www.myspace.com/thecoshercothoneys
CUT
OFF YOUR HANDS
- "Oh Girl": Cut Off Your Hands are based in the UK, where
they're recording their debut album with Bernard
Butler
for UK label 679. "Oh Girl" is the group's new track and its
cool, eighties-influenced hooks make this one smell like a smash.
The band is already picking up spins on Xfm
in the UK, as well as Zane
Lowe's
BBC
Radio 1
show. Also, Triple
J
in Australia and numerous tastemaker radio outlets across the United
States of America including Indie 103.1 Los Angeles, KNRK Portland,
WXPN Philadelphia and WEQX Albany and stations in Canada are also
spinning the tune. www.myspace.com/cutoffyourhands.
DIE!
DIE! DIE!
- "Sideways Here We Come": This group has called Dunedin and
Auckland its home, but is in actual fact more like confrontational
musical nomads playing a situational international-inspired
lifestyle and calling it a band. The fact that they make a simply
brilliant noise along the way has been duly noted by fans around the
world, as Die!DieDie! has toured relentlessly, armed only with their
sharp wits and angular tunes. Their new album, Promises
Promises,
was recorded in upstate New York with one of their own local heroes
at the production helm, Shayne
Carter
of Straitjacket
Fits
and Dimmer
fame. The result is a taut album that packs the group's trademark
angst into their most dynamic settings
yet. www.myspace.com/diediedienz.
THE
RUBY SUNS
- "Tane Mahuta": The Ruby Suns release their music stateside on
Sub Pop; while back in New Zealand they are a core act in the scene
based around the Lil Chief label (other stable mates there include
Sub Pop's The
Brunettes).
California native Ryan
McPhun
leads the band and mixes wistful Beach
Boys
harmonies with eclectic flourishes of baroque pop tomfoolery. Sea
Lion
is the group's new album and its melodic musings found inspiration
in the natural world and Ryan's travels within it. "Tane Mahuta,"
sung entirely in Maori, is an ode to the great Waipoua forest in New
Zealand. The Ruby Suns will be at SXSW before touring Stateside
throughout March and April. www.myspace.com/therubysuns.

Bassboosa
"Succumb (Glen Nicholls Radio Remix)" (Champion Records)
Bassboosa
is a five-piece band fronted by the beautiful and talented Jasmine
Badir and her co-writing partner Tim Clarke who is also a gifted
producer/remixer. Bassboosa have just serviced radio with "Succumb"
the remixes, which offer an electronic/trip-hop/chill-out journey
(think Dido,
Frou
Frou,
Zero
7,
Sarah
MacLachlan,
Enigma).
The EP contains remixes from Glen Nicholls, Tim Cox and FutureFunk
Squad.
The
band has had success in the US with their take on Chris
Isaak's
"Wicked Game," gaining radio support on over 30 additional
stations across the US and had their music licensed by EA
Games
for Tiger
Woods 08.
In addition, the band was featured as a spotlight artist on MySpace's
main music page as the Snocap featured artist of the week, which saw
them selling several thousand downloads in a matter of a couple of
weeks, which is unprecedented for a relatively unknown act that is
unsigned in the US. Bassboosa is signed to UK independent Champion
Records, which was the original independent label home to Dido,
Faithless,
Robin
S,
Will
Smith
and Salt-N-Pepa
prior to their major label signing in the UK and/or US. Check out the
Glen Nicholls Radio Remix of "Succumb" here

Robyn Ft. Kleerup
"With Every Heartbeat" (Cherrytree/Interscope)
Robyn
is back. Wait, where did she go? Who's Robyn again? In 1996 the
world of Pop music was taking over. Airwaves were filled with boy
bands and sugar-filled ditties. Sure, you were familiar with Britney,
Christina
and Jessica
but U.S. radio also embraced Swedish singer-songwriter Robyn. Best
known for her smashes "Do You Know (What It Takes)" and "Show
Me Love" Robyn was on her way to being the next pop princess. But
the commercial wave came crashing down and music was changing; no
longer were you hearing the same bands that ruled the charts and the
backlash had begun. Not to be discouraged, Robyn continued to record
and released her second album, My
Truth,
and it was a smash in Europe but never released in the U.S. In 2002
Robyn changed labels from RCA to Jive and released Don't
Stop the Music.
After a luke-warm reception, Robyn went back to the drawing board and
focused on the music that she
wanted to release.
With
new material released in 2007, Robyn scored her very first #1 single
in the UK for "With Every Heartbeat." Next up on Robyn's agenda
is a return to the US. She recently returned to the states playing a
few dates including a sold out show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles.
She recently released The
Rakamonie EP
in the US and the first single is "With Every Heartbeat." Robyn
is also featured on the remix to Snoop
Dogg's
hit "Sexual Seduction," that is currently heating up the airwaves
at Urban, Mix Show and Top 40. Welcome Robyn's return by viewing
the video here. For information on future releases, tour dates and
more, log on to http://www.robyn.com.

GUTTER TWINS BACK IN
THE PENTHOUSE: The new project from Mark Lanegan and Greg Dulli,
The Gutter Twins, reclaims the top spot on the Mediaguide Alternative
Specialty Song chart with "Idle Hands," which rebounds from last
week's #2 showing. Meanwhile, full-length Saturnalia (Sub
Pop) jumps 5-2 on the Album end, trailing only the Raveonettes'
sinfully delicious Lust Lust Lust (Vice), which ascends to #1
for the first time behind major airplay for "Dead Sound," which
checks in at #4 on the Song side. Making big moves on both charts is
Toronto trio Born Ruffians, who leap 9-2 on the Song chart with "I
Need a Life" (Warp), helping to propel full-length Red, Yellow &
Blue 15-9 on the Album index. Like most every other band in the
Western world, they'll be in Austin for SXSW; check out their
website, www.bornruffians.com,
for all the details. Top debut on the Song chart this week goes to
The National with "Fake Empire" (Beggars Banquet) bowing at #5,
while from the "Where have they been?" file comes '90s
Alt-Faves Kula Shaker, who debut at #9 on the Song chart with "Out
on the Highway," leadoff single from new album Strange Folk
(Strangefolk/Cooking Vinyl), which debuts at #11 on the Album index.
Also enjoying an impressive debut week is The Duke Spirit, whose
Neptune (Shangri-La) appears on the Album index at #6, helped
in no small part by the #8 Song showing of "The Step and the Walk."
Finally, with St. Patty's Day getting closer and closer, what
better way to celebrate Irish heritage than Flogging Molly? The
Specialty panel apparently agrees, as full-length Float (Side One
Dummy) rockets up the Album index from 19-3, with the majority of
airplay going to "Requiem for a Dying Song," which debuts at #6
on the Song chart.

we fabricate them. Thank you and remember to THINK PINK!
