The Pink Logs have been spotted in the most random places. They have been seen all over Hollywood at the hottest events, all across Los Angeles and Las Vegas and now Seattle, WA. During a wedding celebration, pictures have surfaced of partygoers and The Pink Logs. Again, we don't want to alarm you; The Pink Logs have not caused any harm and seem to be very friendly and know how to party.

Tim
Pyles, KZBT
How
did you get into radio?
It
all happened after wallowing in the everyday world for ten years and
finally realizing life is too short to not follow your dreams. My
dreams were to be a radio DJ, which would even be blamed on Dr.
Demento, who I remember listening to as a young boy. Out of high
school, I had a short stint at KCLU, a college radio station where I
went to school. Albeit it was just one year, it was a great
experience on the "Rock of the Oaks!" I came back to San Diego
and attended a local college receiving degrees in radio/television
and film/video. Then, I went to work stupid jobs not even relating to
my degrees.
Ten years later after
losing a job, I decided to take an entry level position at 91z. it
was really for the parent company (Jacor) and I was the runner, you
might say, as I worked in the mail room. I eventually worked my way
onto the local show, Loudspeaker, then weekends, then the lab
specialty show and then the walls came crashing down as I was a bad
boy and got a D.U.I. in a company car (nothing to be proud of, but a
blessing in disguise). Yes, I lost my job--doh! Eight months later I
had the fortune of being invited to join the team at FM 94/9 and I've
been there ever since, hosting The Local FM94/9, filling in and what
not. No more drinking and driving! Everybody does it; just wait Ôtil
you get caught!
Describe
your show, The Local 94/9. What can people expect when tuning in?
They
can expect two hours of music from San Diego county and even Tijuana,
but no boundaries. I play a wide variety of music and it's all
picked by me. Every genre, except maybe opera, but there are some
great local bands that incorporate operatic style singing, so I guess
I play it all.
Describe
some of the promotions that you have done with the station.
I
host a monthly free show at The
Casbah,
where we showcase local talent and I broadcast my show live from what
we call the Atari Lounge. It's a free show with free food from a
local restaurant, too. Got to give back to the community, man!

If
someone were to visit San Diego and want to check out the local music

they see?
They
should go to The

Also, maybe Bar

in North Park, a new 21 and over venue/bar partially owned by John
Reis aka "Swami" of Rocket
From The Crypt,
Drive

or just check out www.sddialedin.com
for the latest.
Being
in close radius to Los Angeles, do you think that helps or hurts SD
as a market when bands are touring?
It
used to, but not so much anymore. The new House
of Blues
and even the Beauty Bar have helped immensely and it's only going
to get better. San Diego is a weird town and there most certainly
could be more people that supported local, national and international
bands that come through.
As
far as the music industry is concerned, what would you do to improve
it today?
Take
down certain barriers and trust people. The DIY approach is going to
work for so many bands in the future; it's going to be cool. Bands
in some ways can make their own destiny without a record label.

Lupe
Fiasco Ft. Matthew Santos "Superstar" (1st
& 15th/Atlantic)
Born
and raised in Chicago, home of Smashing
Pumpkins,
Fall
Out Boy
and Kanye
West,
Lupe Fiasco grew up listening to his father's rap albums. At first,
the violence and language that Lupe was exposed to in rap music
turned him away as he wanted nothing to do with it. When he turned
17, he heard Nas'
It
Was Written
CD and at that very moment, Lupe knew he wanted to pursue music.
At
age 19 Lupe was in a group that signed to Epic records, but broke up
after releasing just one single. Lupe then found himself signed to
Arista records but was dropped as then CEO LA Reid was let go. Not to
be discouraged by the music business, Lupe signed to Atlantic records
in 2006. Before releasing his first solo album, he released various
mixtapes, including one with Mike
Shinoda
of Linkin
Park
for the Fort
Minor
project. Then Island Def Jam CEO Jay-Z
heard his work and insisted on helping Lupe with his first album. The
result was a smash first single "Kick, Push" focused on the topic
of skateboarding and the album Food
& Liquor
was nominated for three GRAMMY's. He was also voted by GQ magazine
as Breakout Man of the Year.
On
December 18, 2007, Lupe released his sophomore disc, Lupe
Fiasco's The Cool,
after many delays and internet leaks. The first single "Superstar"
has Lupe teamed up with Matthew
Santos
and the result is a multi-format favorite. Urban, Top 40, Hot AC and
Alternative stations are all having success with this track.
Hear it
for yourself. As for the future for Lupe Fiasco, he formed a
group with Kanye West & Pharrell
Williams
(of The
Neptunes)
called Child Rebel Soldier that hopes to record by the end of 2008.

Karoshi
Bros. "Love The World" (We Are Woodville)
Not
a lot is known about the mysterious Karoshi Bros., whose infectious
single "Love The World" is making waves worldwide with its
hypnotic beats, adorably electronic vocals and cheeky lyrics ("Coca
Cola is pop/Madonna is not"). So, let's reveal what we do know:
"Love The World" is the first effort from new UK indie label We
Are Woodville
and they just received a worldwide digital release late last year. As
for the artists, they're a duo consisting of "Big Karoshi Bro"
and "Baby Karoshi Bro" who define themselves as "studio monkeys
flogged by barbed whips of electro-pop, beaten with sticks of hip-hop
and cut with splints of indie-dance". Well, that certainly
clears thing up! And as for the video... well, you may just want to
check it out for yourself- the band describes it as "a trippy slice
of dance floor animé-pop that slinks out of the speakers like
the audio equivalent of a Pokémon cartoon on industrial
strength acid." To witness the madness yourself check out
"Love The World" and if you are curious enough to want more
information on the band, log on to http://www.myspace.com/karoshibros

VAMPIRE WEEKEND
"PUNKS" THE COMPETITION: Thus far, 2008 has proven to be a
very good year for a bevy of Big Apple-based bands on the Mediaguide
Alternative Specialty charts. This week Vampire Weekend becomes the
third straight NYC act to claim the top spot on the Song chart
(following Nada Surf and MGMT), as "A Punk" (XL/Beggars Group)
rises 4-1 while their self-titled full-length manages to better that
feat, leaping 7-1 on the Album end. The quartet will be on tour and
criss-crossing the country through April, with a one-week UK swing
planned for late February to break things up a bit. To discover when
they'll be in your neck of the woods, hit up
www.myspace.com/vampireweekend. Meanwhile, MGMT, which headed both
charts last week, holds strong at #3 on both indexes with "Time to
Pretend" and Oracular Spectacular (Columbia), while the
Kills remain at #2 on the Song side with "U.R.A. Fever" (Domino).
There's a foursome of top 10 Song debuts to report, starting with
The Helio Sequence (Sub Pop) at #5 with "Keep Your Eyes Ahead"
(with the full album of the same name debuting at #4), directly
followed by longtime Alt-faves the B-52s at #6 with "Funplex,"
the first single from their forthcoming Astralwerks effort. Clocking
in at #7 are Be Your Own Pet with "The Kelly Affair" (Ecstatic
Peace!/Universal), while Cat Power bows at #8 with "New York,"
helping her full-length Jukebox (Matador) chart at #2 on the
Album end. The other top debut on the Album index belongs to Chris
Walla, who makes his initial appearance at #6 with his Field
Manual (Barsuk) album, with the most Song airplay being given to
"The Score," which debuts at #19.

The Bitter Alphabet
according to The Pink Log
A is for Arteries...that
thing that your ex ripped out of you when she cheated on you. B is
for Bitter. Need I go into detail? C is for Crazy. When her head
spins like the Exorcist, you know something is wrong. D is for
Dumped. That's how it always ends. E is for Eating like a pig.
My ex-girlfriend could eat more than I couldÑthat's not a
compliment, folks. F is for Friends. I forgot what those where
while we were dating. G is for Gross. What girl doesn't shave
her armpits...I know of a few! H is for Hats. Why, you may ask? I
was never allowed to wear a hat in front of her. WTF? I stands for
I am still bitter (you can refer to B at this point) J stands for
Jim. This is the name of the guy she cheated on me with. They are now
married with children while I am single and lonely. Life is great. K
stands for Karl. This is the guy that I saw take my (now) ex to
dinner...on our anniversary...and we were still dating! L is for
Love. What the? M stands for money. I lost way too much trying to
impress some of my ex-girlfriends. Can I get a refund? N stands
for Nasty bunions. Nothing more to say there. O is for Out of
control shopper. One of my ex-girlfriends has more shoes than
Britney, Paris & Lindsay combined. P is for Pill. What a lie.
Q is for Quack. I got dumped for a nurse...who claimed he was a
doctor! R is for Ridiculous. One of my ex-girlfriends wouldn't
let me watch football because "Grey's Anatomy" was on at the
same time...are you kidding? S stands for Suffer. Have you
detected a trend yet? T is for torture. Everyday I see my
dreams...go down the drain in misery. U is for Understanding.
"Sure honey, I'd much rather go to your reading club than to the
sports bar with my friends." V is for Victorious. If she wanted
to hurt me, she did. Congrats. W stands for Weird. Don't you
think it's weird that you read this far and you don't know me? X
is for Xylophone. Just because. Y stands for "You are out of
here!" Z stands for Zilch, because that's what I have
now.
