Blog-In

It's the first official week of 2008 and The Pink Logs have been spotted again. The first of the new instances was in Santa Barbara, CA with Britney Spears as she ducked into a Target store for a purchase. The second time the logs were spotted this week was with Roger Clemens as he posed for a picture before heading to his attorney's office in Houston, TX. Folks, we don't want to alarm you, but this could be the beginning of an epidemic. Keep reading the hushhush ATTACK! newsletter for further developments.

MP3 Astroboy "Follow Me" (Koala Records)

When you think of fresh new music, it doesn't really matter where it's coming from, as long as it's good. This week, we found a musical diamond in the rough from Montevideo, the largest city and capital of Uruguay, home to over a million people and the band, Astroboy.

Martin, Javier, Paco, Tuco & Pablo, collectively known as Astroboy, are a breath of fresh air to the local music scene in Uruguay. The band goes against every stereotype that has been associated with Latin Rock & Punk groups that defined the musical direction in the past. The band draws many influences and would appeal to fans of The Redwalls, Buzzcocks, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Air. The song "Follow Me," from their latest album, Big For The City, is a two and a half minute sample of some fresh music from Uruguay. If you would like to hear other tunes from Astroboy, log on to their MySpace page.

Miss Li "Gotta Leave My Troubles Behind" (National)

In the past year, Miss Li has become one of Sweden's most promising exports. Her music is fun, bubbly and ever-so catchy. When listening to her music, you may notice influences and hints of Kate Bush, Aretha Franklin and even Janis Joplin. Miss Li has been known to sing a variety of genres including but not limited to Alternative, Pop, Jazz, Blues, Rock and believe it or not Heavy Metal. When asked about combining different styles of music, Miss Li said "I put a little bit of this and a little bit of that to make it sound like one. I haven't got any rules that I want to follow or pattern which I fit into and to be honest, I don't care what it sounds like as long as it's fun. The day it's not fun, I'll quit."

Miss Li has released three albums in the last two years, had No. 1 songs on Swedish radio and had her songs in Grey's Anatomy and Swedish trailers for 24 & Lost. In 2008, she plans to continue her touring and creating new music. To catch a glimpse of just how creative Miss Li is, check out the video to "Gotta Leave My Troubles Behind." Chart Analysis

Chart Analysis BUILDING SOME STRONG FOUNDATIONS: As the new year dawns, the Mediaguide Alternative Specialty Song index welcomes a new chart-topper: English singer/songwriter Kate Nash, whose "Foundations" claims the first top spot of 2008. The timing couldn't be better for young Ms. Nash: her Fiction/Geffen debut, Made of Bricks, hit American retail shelves this week and the chanteuse celebrated with a sold-out show at New York City's Bowery Ballroom on Wednesday prior to West Coast gigs in San Francisco and Los Angeles (where she also sold out the Troubadour). Next stop: the main stage of the Big Day Out touring extravaganza in Australia and New Zealand. Scottish quartet Sons & Daughters, who had held the pole position for the last three weeks of 2007, hold strong at #2 with "Gilt Complex" (Domino)...so strong, in fact, that the single is also #2 on the Album end, trailing only the Hives' The Black and White Album (Octone/A&M). Top debut honors on the Song side go to Bullet for My Valentine with "Scream Aim Fire" (Zomba), which bows at #4; other new names on the Song chart this week include Mike Doughty with "27 Jennifers" (ATO) at #7, Linkin Park's "What I've Done" (Machine Shop/Warner Bros.) at #9 and Air Traffic's "Charlotte" (Astralwerks/EMI) at #10. The latter two acts parleyed the airplay into impressive showings on the Album end, also, as Linkin Park's Minutes to Midnight rebounds to #3, just ahead of Air Traffic's Fractured Life at #4. Meanwhile, the grand experiment continues: in the week that ATO Records debuted the physical release of Radiohead's In Rainbows, the album remained strong at #5 on the Album chart, while also topping the sales charts in the UK and US (selling over 120,000 in the latter). Pretty amazing, considering it's been available for free for three months...perhaps rumors of the CD's imminent demise may be a tad premature, eh?
