The
end of 2007 is here and now is the time to make your New Year's
Resolutions. Below are the answers from some brave folks on what they
were going to do for 2008.
Wayne McDonald,
Galaxy FM 2008 will see me
working even harder than I am currently. And without any aid from
illegal substances. Well, I can try...
Ralphie aka Chris
Randour, KTCL/KTEG
I resolve to start
thinking of my 2009 resolution
Tim Pyles, KBZT San
Diego I'm giving up late
nights and rock and roll, wait, what am I saying? Life is too short,
I give up nothing! OK, I promise to be a better person to my fellow
man.
Andrea von Foerster,
Firestarter Music I plan to give up
giving up New Year's Resolutions
Nancy Scibillia,
Gold Mountain Entertainment I'm getting more
involved with kids and music education and I'd like to do more of
that in 2008. I visited Paul Green's School of Rock in Hollywood and
it's so amazing to see kids learning how to play real instruments. I
plan on having a benefit at Safari Sams in Hollywood at the end of
March that will help raise money for School of Rock and Girls Rock
Camp (amazing organization - check out www.girlsrockcamp.org).
Jason Sausto, Onkyo Breathing. Giving it up
is the healthiest alternative when you live in China.
Scroobius Pip (one
half of le sac vs pip) I don't plan to give
up anything! I'm no quitter! I do however plan to release an album
that I can be proud of with Dan le Sac and continue touring and
developing our live show.
Sam Bethune -
guitar, Skybombers I'd like to read more
books and biographies. It's probably a good thing to learn from the
experiences of others, particularly in the music industry.
Molly Peters,
Passport Approved Travel more! I'm 23
and never been out of the US...I think it's officially time! I want
to scale back my addiction to gossip web sites; my brain is turning
into mush. Finally, attempt to actually start going to this elusive
place called "the gym"
Chiara Kramer, Ex
Student I need to keep working
on remembering people's names. I'm horrible at it. And I need to be
more decisive.
Travis Storch,
iLike, inc. Oh man, this isn't even
worth answering, I never follow-through on my pie-in-the-sky
resolutions.
Tom Callahan,
President Callahan & Associates I plan to give up
caring about record deals and relying on anyone else
Palmer Houchins,
PASTE Magazine Stop convincing myself
that buying grape-flavored bottled water is ever a good idea.
Tom Williams, Client
Support - Mediaguide I'm going to give up
on politics and political humor.
Karen Black, Goo
Entertainment I plan to finish
painting the inside of my house and finish the landscaping outside my
house.
Daniel Ben-Efraim,
Sr. Sales Manager - The London West Hollywood My New Years resolution
is to stop being poor, broke is so 2007.
Bob Bisla, Pangaea
Entertainment Give up chewing tobacco
Carrie Istad, Key
Club I wished that I could
give up my love for Hall & Oates but I just can't!
Brandon Fuller,
hushhush ATTACK! To actually make use of
my LA Fitness membership
Joe Arnold, hushhush

George
Stanford "My Own Worst Enemy" (Smash/Mercury)
George
Simon Stanford always had a love for music. He grew up in
Philadelphia, PA surrounded by it, as his parents would constantly
have music playing and this soothed George, opening up the floodgates
for his talent. His love for music guided him to the University of
the Arts School in Philadelphia, where he formed the band, Townhall.
Townhall was a regional success; playing shows in front of 2000
people.
After
a year at school, George wanted to focus on music and not the path
that school was leading him, so he decided to leave. Eventually the
group grew apart and George continued his song crafting by going
solo. Timing was right for George as shortly, he signed a deal with
Epic records. Due to unforeseen changes at the label, George had left
Epic and was picked up by Smash/Mercury records. Within the last
year, George had created The
EP,
filled with outstanding music that our industry is yearning for.
The
EP
starts with "My Own Worst Enemy." This
song had fans singing every word and hanging on every note at the
Passport
Approved
show at On
The Rox
last week in Hollywood. George impressed the audience filled with
fans and industry vets, along with the other bands that shared the
stage with him; they included Justin
Hopkins,
Meiko,
& Carolinaliar.
More
information on George Stanford can be found on the official Island
web site
and you can check out more music on his MySpace
page.

THREE
IN A ROW FOR SONS & DAUGHTERS: Perhaps reflecting the spirit
of the holiday season, Glaswegian quartet Sons & Daughters
enjoyed their third straight week atop the Mediaguide Alternative
Specialty Song chart with the appropriately titled "Gilt Complex"
(Domino). The single release has also picked up enough airplay to
remain at #2 for the third week in a row on the Album end, trailing
only--and inevitably, it seems at this point--Band of Horses' Cease
to Begin (Sub Pop), which was buoyed by the return to #3 on the
Song side of "Is There a Ghost" as specialty programmers began to
play their 2007 "Best of" tunes. In between those two on the Song
chart is another former #1, Bloc Party's "Flux" (Vice) at #2,
helping full-length A Weekend in the City rebound to #4 on the
Album index, where it trails Radiohead's self-released In
Rainbows (which may have received a boost thanks to the arrival
of the deluxe "box set" version) at #3. Making a big move and
drawing a pair of fives is former Pulpster Richard Hawley, who
advances to #5 on both charts with new single "Serious" and album
Lady's Bridge (Mute). Laid-back surf guru Jack Johnson
debuts at #6 on the Song side with "If I Had Eyes" (Brushfire),
helping Sleep through the Static to a #13 showing on the Album chart.
The best debut on the Album end belongs to The Dillinger Escape
Plan's Ire Works (Relapse) at #8, while those yearning for
something completely different can take solace in twin Canadian
crooners Tegan & Sara, who bow at #12 on the Album index with The
Con (Vapor/Sire). Finally, big ups to Wu-Tang Clan, whose "The
Heart Gently Weeps" (Wu/SRC/UMRG), a haunting take on the Beatles'
classic featuring soulstress Erykah Badu, RHCP axe master John
Frusciante and Dhani Harrison, son of original composer George,
debuts at #16 on the Song side. |
Why did the elf put his bed into the fireplace?
He wanted to sleep like a log!
(Horrible...we know, but we are in vacation mode already!)
