Konie - My Life Is
Sh*t But I Am Funky (Razzia Records)
Many times you read
that something is described as old school. The band Konie is truly
old school in the sense that the loops created on "My Life" were
done on a reel-to-reel with a razor and tape; it truly doesn't get
any more old school than that! Bands that use sample loops today
probably didn't even know what a reel-to-reel is. Fast forward to
2007 and Konie is bringing funky to the forefront. Another fresh
import from Sweden, Konie's full length album "The Club Is Open"
has a unique experimental sound. One of the tracks that got our first
attention was "My Life". A brave mixture of Beck, Sly & The
Family Stone and a hint of Devo, Konie's life may not be going the
way they want it to, but the song is definitely funky and deserves
the attention of your earhole. Check out the tune
here, or
take a look at their MySpace Page.

Bluejuice
- Vitriol
Do you remember the first time you saw The
Polyphonic Spree? The free spirit, the bright colors
and what some may call, the magic. Well after viewing the Bluejuice
video for "Vitriol" the first time, it was like being introduced
to The Polyphonic Spree all over again, without the bright colors.
Some have described the video as a religious cult makes a music
video. Close, except for the religious cult part. This is a clip that
shows a band having a lot of fun dressed in what looks like religious
attire, but neither the band nor the song, have any religious
meaning. Sydney, Australia's Bluejuice will never have a problem
standing out in a crowd; view the video and form your opinion.
Inquiring minds check out "Vitriol" here.

SONS & DAUGHTERS
ALSO RISES: In the wake of Band of Horses' unprecedented
six-week run atop the Mediaguide Alternative Specialty Song chart
with "Is There a Ghost" (Sub Pop) things have once again returned
to normal in Specialtyland, as no artist has held the top spot for
consecutive weeks since. That trend continued again this week, as
Glaswegian quartet Sons & Daughters ascends to the top spot with
"Gilt Complex," the first single from their forthcoming 2008
album The Gift (Domino). In fact, all the airplay for "Gilt
Complex" also allowed it to also claim the #2 spot on the Album
end, trailing only--stop me if you've heard this one before--the
aforementioned Band of Horses with Cease to Begin. At #3 on
the Album side is Radiohead's self-released In Rainbows,
making an impressive comeback from last week's tumble to the 14th
position. Top debut honors on the Song chart goes to Spoon with "Do
You Evah" (Merge), which bows at #3 and helps full-length Ga Ga
Ga Ga Ga return to the Album chart at #6. Other nice debuts this
week include Richard Hawley at #7 with "Serious" (Mute), White
Rabbits at #10 with "The Plot" (Young Turks/Say Hey) and CSS with
the lasciviously titled "Musk is My Hot Hot Sex" (Sub Pop) at
#11. Meanwhile, Album chart debuts include Sea Wolf at #12 with
Leaves in the River (Dangerbird) and the Blakes at #15 with
their self-titled effort (Light in the Attic), helped by the #16
showing on the Song chart of single "Don't Bother Me." And
finally, proving that you're never too old to rock & roll is
Carbon/Silicon, the project featuring former Clash City Rocker Mick
Jones and ex-Generation X main man Tony James, who moved up to #5 on
the Song side with "The News," helping full-length The Last
Post (Caroline) advance to #7 on the Album end.
