It's that time here in the U.S. when we reflect on the things that we are thankful and grateful for. We have reached out to a few of our industry friends as well as the hhA! staff to find out exactly what they are thankful for musically and generally speaking... enjoy!

2) Musically, the growing world of digital and the ease with which I can bring literally thousands of songs with me anywhere I go.

Joseph Leibovic, President & Founder of Los Angeles Pop Art
1) The Shake up in the music biz-watching these last rounds of "music" award shows a major overhaul of the industry was needed and I'm pretty sure only the talented will be left standing.
2) Tribute bands

8) Musically, for an industry allowing everyone to see dinosaurs roam the earth again. The large, slow, lumbering giants move across the earth, simply unaware of their oddity in the environment, not realizing that the earth is changing, which is causing their extinction. While many creatures are successfully adapting to the new environment, many of these large dinosaurs are simply too slow to evolve. Many will expire in the Internet tar pits and the rest will come to ruin trying to maintain their size with a voracious appetite. Some have started feeding on each other, thus reducing the competition. Survival of the fittest indeed.

--STARTING TO DIG--

>>Many of our hushhush ATTACK! faithful have missed you and the weekly "SPLAT!" feature these past few months... where the hell have you been hiding?!?!
Music Anorak
I'm back! The past two months I have spent doing a Shadowscene US photo tour...which basically means I've hit up over a dozen well known as well as overlooked cities in the US that have some of the raddest parties going on right now. Lawrence, Kansas is an amazingly well kept secret...until now. Other than that, some video projects have ensued as well as more work on the
Botwear clothing line...yip yipper!

>>How did you get into photography?

I started shooting Polaroids when I was a wee lil tot and then got my first manual SLR Pentax camera at 13. And since, I've never really stopped shooting photos.

>>When and how did you start to blend it with live music?
I started blending photos with bands and live music during high school. Being a part of the local music scene in Boston at a young age really helped me to gain access to a lot of upcoming larger acts. I would shoot their underground shows and hang with them in the city which eventually led me to shooting the larger festivals and acts such as Outkast and Public Enemy back in 2002.

>>What did you want to be when you were 10?
I considered being an archaeologist for a while; but that was only because I was a dirt digging tomboy. And then I realized I just wanted to write things and post them all over. So more or less, I wanted to be a writer/poet.

>>..and what did your parents want you to be?
I only seem to remember my Grampa wanting me to be a doctor or a lawyer...but then my mom said I should just be a stripper cause I'd make more money quicker that way. I think she was joking. I think.

>>If you had a musical genie that could grant you 3 wishes for the music industry, what would they be?
Ooooh! Oooh! I'd get to spend one day with the Beastie Boys shooting hoops and skateboarding and shooting dope ass photos and videos with a fish eye lens. And then, bands could actually make some decent money off their music. And finally, I would be in the rider as official photographer for my favorites. Hopefully there'd be lots of carrot sticks in the rider too.

>>Mentors you've had in your profession?
Glen Friedman for sure. He photographed and spent the best of days with Run DMC, Beastie Boys and more. Plus, getting to document the Dogtown and Z boys during the 1970's is pretty damn prolific. Other than that, my mentors would be the photographers from the 40's who made a difference because of their work.

>>What makes a photograph a good one?
My guy friends say boobs, but for me, if you can physically look at a photograph and be captivated by what is going on, that's amazing. A good photo is one that encompasses a split moment in time and says a lot while screaming emotion.

>>Favorite photographers?
Glenn Friedman, Andre Kertesz, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Brassai, Lewis Hine, Robert Frank, Edward Weston

>>What famous person/people do you resemble?
Resemble...um, hmmm. Physically? I have no idea, although all summer I was consistently mistaken for Uffie, but that may have been due to all the time spent with the Ed Banger crew and random freestyling sessions. And the past couple of months I keep hearing Jenny Lewis. Apparently, I should have been a rock star.

>>Top 5 fav bands of 'right now'
The Black Ghosts, Chromeo, Blaqk Audio, Juiceboxxx, The Deadly Syndrome

>>Worst album of all time:
Non-existent in my brain capacity

>>Your daily reads (i.e. blogs, ezines, websites)
everyoneisfamous.com and nickydigital.com - Big Stereo, Missing Toof and Trash Menagerie as well

>>Parting words?
Beep, Bop, Boop.

Punter Hush

Dean Raisen - Viper Room

>>Who

Some of the bands I've booked are (in order from the latter): rebelution, tomorrows bad seeds, cipes and the people, dj native wayne, maryandi, kongos, raine maida, skybombers, deux process, the steve natale band, last drag, visionaries, grayskul, steriogram, dissorient express, battle alaska, international farmers, preeta and the peacemakers.

>>What:

i will book anything i would personally pay to see or what nobody would yet... but will pay buckets in the future....reggae/hip hop/rock/electronic. music you can go by yourself and stand at the bar alone, have a beer and not give a fuck.

>>When:

it really depends on the whole package in regards to when I book shows. if im booking something huge and it needs a weekend that can keep it solid all night ill push for a weekend.on the other hand if its an industry thing or a 8:30 on a wednesday night crowd that can sometimes be better as some bands do better at that time then say, midnight on saturday.

>>Where:

I book a lot of shows at the viper room but have done shows here and there at the knitting factory, temple bar, malibu inn, 14 below, mood, on the rox and some orange county venues.

>>Why:

1. people gotta see this shit man !

2. if a 21 year old white dreadlocked jewish south african can put a great band on the stage in los angeles...why not.

3. some bands could honestly use the help.

4. build a rep of being the first to snag(umm help) em.

5. they are all for the most part really cool people who love music too.

6. what goes around comes around ??

MP3 LIAM FINN - "SECOND CHANCE" (YEB ROCK RECORDS)

If the last name rings a bell, that's because Liam is the son of Neil Finn, lead singer of Crowded House and Split Endz. From his debut solo disc, I'll Be Lightning, comes the track "Second Chance." The song showcases Liam's vocal talent as well as writing abilities. With such eerie lyrics as "you stand around your haunted home those demons won't leave you alone, don't forget me when you grow old." Already named one of the Top Artists To Watch in 2008 by Rolling Stone®, Liam has toured with Crowded House, played Coachella, Live Earth and the CMJ Music Marathon last month in New York. Hear it now, before you hear about it later. Click to download

TROUBLE ANDREW - "BANG BANG": Remember that classic of '70s cinema, "Slap Shot"? The quintessential hockey movie, it starred Paul Newman as the player/coach of the Charlestown Chiefs, a hapless collection of minor-league misfits whose season turned around once they embraced violence through fighting, as most memorably portrayed by "the Hansen Brothers": three goons wearing battered horned-rim glasses and tinfoil over their knuckles in order to better draw blood with their fisticuffs. Well, if the Hansens were growing up today, they'd doubtless embrace the music and image of Trouble Andrew, a 21st century look-alike who's also an athlete of note, currently ranking as one of the top snowboarders in the world under his birth name, Trevor Andrew. But now he's starting to eclipse his athletic fame with the music of his "troubled" alter-ego, self-described as "crunk rock" and sounding like a weird mixture of the Cure and Bad Brains. So sit back, relax and enjoy his phantasmagorical video for "Bang Bang," featuring the talents of up-and-coming songstress Santogold...who also happens to be dating the singer.

Chart Analysis

Chart Analysis TOP SPOT IN "FLUX": In the wake of Band of Horses dominating the #1 position on the Mediaguide Alternative Specialty Song chart for six straight weeks with "Is There a Ghost" (Sub Pop), we've seen some rapid turnover at the top, with this being the third week in a row a new artist ascends to #1. This week, it's Bloc Party with "Flux," the debut offering from their forthcoming full-length A Weekend in the City (Vice), which bows at #3 on the Album end. Last week's #1 Song, Sigur Ros' "Hljmolind," stays strong at #3 on the Song chart, helping album Hvarf/Heim (XL) remain at #7 on the Album chart. Moving up to #2 on the Song side is Oasis with "Lord Don't Slow Me Down" (Big Brother), while the aforementioned Band of Horses leap 9-4 with second single "No One's Gonna Love You," helping Cease to Begin stay strong at #2 on the Album index. Meanwhile, reclaiming the pole position from Band of Horses on the Album chart is Radiohead with their self-released In Rainbows. Top debut on the Song chart goes to Katy Perry with the decidedly non-PC anthem "Ur So Gay" (Capitol) at #5, directly followed by Aesop Rock at #6 with "Coffee (w/John Darnielle)," helping their forthcoming None Shall Pass (Definitive Jux) secure a top 10 Album bow at #10. The top debut on the Album end, though, belongs to White Rabbits, who make an initial appearance at #5 with Fort Nightly (Young Turks/Say Hey), helped in part by strong support for songs "The Plot" and "Kid on my Shoulder," which debut at #13 and #16, respectively, on the Song chart.
