The major labels are dead!” ..... “Who needs a label?” ..... “They are so out of touch!” .... “I can do it all on my own homie!!” – some are, you do, some are, and prove it, anyway... regardless of anything that anyone says about any major label out there, there are still some labels that are doing it right. Fact is, they have changed their ways immensely in comparison to the old school model of days gone by, and thankfully they now have the foresight to hire people who are way ahead of the curve when it comes to new media and true artist development. With that being said, let me introduce you to this week’s blog of the week. RockInsider is exactly what the name says, it rocks and its written by an insider. Many people claim to have the “scoop” in the blogs they write, or that they are privy to information, I call bullshit. This blog doesn’t have to spout off at the mouth, it just gives it to you. I’m not in the business giving away the magician’s secrets but I am in the business of giving credit where credit is due, and this blog has seriously has it together. I’ve been a longtime lurker of this blog and today is my coming out party, I like what I’m reading. So check it out.

INTERPOL MAKES IT TWO IN A ROW
That’s right, the artsy New York rockers make it consecutive weeks atop the Mediaguide Specialty Album chart with Our Love to Admire (Capitol), easily outstripping the opposition by a comfortable margin, helped in no small part by not just one, but a pair of songs currently charting on the Song side: “The Heinrich Maneuver” (holding steady at #6) and “No I in Threesome” (currently #14). Last week’s big debut, the Rentals (Boompa), slips only slightly: the Last Little Life EP drops 2-5, while last week’s #1 Song, “Little Bit of You in Everything,” dips to #2. Ascending to the top spot on the Song side is UNKLE’s “Burn My Shadow,” which finally claims #1 after consecutive weeks bubbling under at #2. The big moves on the Song side come from Tokyo Police Club (Paper Bag), which bows at #3 with “Your English,” and Alt-faves Yeah Yeah Yeahs (Interscope), who boast a pair of debuts on the Song chart at #5 with “Down Boy” and #18 with “Rockers to Swallow.” The twin debuts help the NYC trio make the biggest move on the Album chart, leaping all the way from 48-3 with the Is Is EP. Also making a big move on the Song side is Gogol Bordello (SideOneDummy) with “Wonderlust King,” which jumps 21-7--guess that duet with Madonna during Live Earth made an impression on the Specialty panel! The top debut on the Album side is held down by an old friend celebrating an anniversary--the 10th anniversary edition of the Foo Fighters’ The Colour and the Shape (Roswell/Legacy/RCA) makes an initial appearance at #9 on the album side.
