Spoon keeps things moving with
“The Underdog” at #1 for the second week in a row on The
Mediaguide ‘Songs’ chart. Merge is killing it in ’07:
Bud Fox/Merge Records’ Shout Out Louds jump from #51 to #2 this
week on the strength of a brilliant brilliant & brilliant single,
“Tonight I Have To Leave It.” Go to their myspace
page
and review the single. This is kind of amusing: The Editors (#3) &
Interpol (#4) are back to back this week... Epic is releasing
the Editors new full-length An
End Has A Start
which makes a huge debut this week at #3 on the Mediaguide Albums
chart... Early tastemaker support on The Editors includes: Steve
“the rat” Aldrich @ WKLQ Grand Rapids, MI, Crista Leigh @
WEQX Albany - Schenectady - Troy, NY & Joe @ KQRA Springfield,
MO... And I have to be honest, I’ve never been a huge X
fan or John Doe fan....BUT, these tastemakers must know
something I don’t know... Early play on John Doe from
Divakar (WEND Charlotte - Gastonia, NC - Rock Hill, SC), Chris Allman
(WTFX Louisville, KY) & Ryan Manno (Q101 Chicago).
New
Debuts:The
Editors, Shout Out Louds, Chow Nasty & John Doe.

Skeet Skeet
– In the words of blogger/DJ lil’ Skeet himself, “I
like art and fashion but I live for design and music. So you’ll
be getting a steady stream
of all of that good stuff. Also I’m a DJ. I use Torq, I use
Skullcandy
Headphones.
I play dance music, I play music you heard on your graduation trip to
Paris. I do a lot of live remixing, and funky shit with VST effects.
I try and push the bar whenever I go out to DJ. I’m trying to
bring club music to America. Listen to DJ Skeet Skeet’s
“Totally Dude! Megamix” of the club anthem “Party
Like A Rockstar” here.

Teenagers “Homecoming”
(Merok Records) – ...Everyone hates America... With
lyrics like “...My American C&*%” the Teenagers
are going to be huge in the mid-west. I Kid.
Besides
offending stupid ugly Americans, the Teenagers are busying themselves
remixing stupid American artists like Brooklyn’s Au
Revoir Simone.

Blog-In
After an extended hiatus,
the blog section is back. For those of you who have missed it,
sweet, tell your friends we’re back. For those who haven’t
noticed it was gone, sweet, your friends will tell you that we’re
back. Without trying to create some witty play on words for
this week’s blog title, I’ll just give it straight to
you: i
guess i’m floating
is one of the best blogs in the world. I regret to inform you
that I’m not a long-time reader of this blog, it has just came
to my attention today in fact, however I have gotten more bang for my
click with this blog than any blog I’ve written about all
year. It does the simple things that makes a blog really stand
out, I’ll just name a few: the mp3s are tagged for itunes and
ripped at 160kbps, it lists the official site/myspace site/more
mp3s/buy music for all of the music it features, it boasts a dope
calendar section with a photo section to boot, and most importantly
its easy to navigate. I’d like to go back to the features
though, most “new media” kids don’t even know how
to search the internet for specific file types, they merely rely on
the interns to bring in cool new stuff. This site actually
gives you a ‘one click shop’ to find more mp3s, and BUY
them as well. Most importantly, it alerted me to the fact that
Kanye West sampled Peter, Bjorn & John’s “Young
Folks”, still not sure how that one sets with me though.
Enough rambling, I’m way out of shape in my blogability,
consistency is key, be back next week.

How did
you come up?
AM:
“I
worked in college radio with Aaron Axelsen of Live 105 fame, became a
College Rep. for Sony music in San Francisco (60 bucks a week?
SWEET!), worked at Rasputin's music at the same time before moving on
to Mod Lang Records in Berkeley (these were indie record
stores...for the youngsters out there, you used to actually have to
GET UP and GET DRESSED and GO OUTSIDE to buy music...I know, it
sounds crazy, but it's totally true...google it...) where Aaron
Axelsen and I continued our love affair and we got to work with Mike
Schulman who ran the Slumberland Record label out of the back of the
store and signed a bunch of bands from Stereolab to Velocity Girl
(remember them?! LOL...shit, i'm seriously dating
myself...)...I was also living in the same house with Aaron, Jeremy
Goldstein (of Beggars Banquet fame...) and Alan Sartirana one of
the founders of Filter Magazine and Marketing... and I then
got promoted to FMR at Sony Distribution (Field Marketing
Rep, the dude that used to set up goofy in store promotions, do those
wicked cool origami display thingies with flats and posters. From
ther I was promoted to being a hybrid FMR/ Sales Rep for Sony
distribution in the bay area (the dude that actually SOLD the
records to the record stores), then I went on to do marketing for
Geffen Records in S.F., then I became regional marketing manager for
Geffen in S.F. AND Seattle, then I moved to L.A. and became the West
Coast Alternative dude for London Records (during the Harvey Danger,
Rammstein era working with Bill Carroll), then I did local promotion
in L.A. for London-Sire Records, then I came to RCA records to be
their west coast Modern AC guy, then I took on AAA as well and then
about 4 years ago, moved to NYC and started running the Adult
department for RCA Music Group, covering Hot AC, Mainstream AC
and AAA for RCA, J Records and Arista Records, working for Richard
Palmese, Charles Goldstuck and Clive Davis. Whew!”
hhA!:
Who are
some of the people who you came up with in the industry (that aren’t
selling real estate now)
AM:
“Damn, I should have read this before rambling so much about my
ex-roomies Aaron Axelsen (Live 105), Jeremy Goldstein (Beggars/
Matador) and Alan Sartirana (Filter Mag/ marketing) above...so those
dudes, plus you of course [Rich Michalowski], plus Sat Bisla at A&R
Worldwide, Rob Goldklang over at Warner Bros, Marc Tamo from Fat
Wreck Chords/ Honest Don's...Robbie Lloyd at Interscope, Jaqueline
Saturn at Epic, Matt Shay here at RCA, Jon Cohen at Cornerstone (who
technically gave me my first gig ever in the biz as an EMI college
Rep. for like a half hour, LOL...long story), Bill Carroll...a fair
amount of radio peeps still (Jaime Cooley, Lisa Worden, Gene
Sandbloom, Chris Patyk, Rob Cross/ Chuck Roast)...I'm spacing on a
ton of people, sorry...shit man, I don't even know how many of my
ol’skool peeps are still in the biz, but there's not a ton of
us survivors around that's for sure...”
hhA!:
Whatever happened to Mod Rox?
AM:
“I heard Fitz and Munro actually traded Mod Rox for
some Youtube stock back in the day and got PAID (notice
that's in ALL CAPS...) when the Google purchase went down...I believe
they are currently being fanned and fed grapes by a cavalcade of
ex-cheerleaders and Hooters retirees at a remote Villa on their own
private island off of the coast of Greece.”
hhA!
Who do you have coming through town?
AM:
“BRMC
was just here, Daughtry was just here, Foo Fighters are playing with
the Police at Dodgers stadium (NO, I can't get you tickets...),
American Idol Tour, Taylor Hicks seems to be around often, DMB are
doing some shows...a lot of bands man...shit, I dunno, what am I
Pollstar or something? Use the internet.”
