Chart Analysis

Chart AnalysisSick’ Maneuver

CD’s are dead. Interpol return to the #1 spot again this week with the digitally shipped single, “The Heinrich Maneuver” and manage to put the stomp down on Queens Of The Stone Ages’s “Sick, Sick Sick” who move up from #4 to #2 this week. On the album front, Interpol drop to #2 giving way to The Arctic Monkey’s Favourite Worst Nightmare which has spent a total of 6 solid weeks on The Albums chart to date. In terms of regular rotation, WBTZ Burlington, VT - Plattsburgh, NY is heading the pack with a total of 27 plays this past week closely followed by KDLD Los Angeles & KFMA Tucson who are both playing “The Heinrich Maneuver” 25x a week. Meanwhile, Dangerbird seems to be on a hot streak with the success of Silversun Pickups and most recently with ex-irving bassist Alex Church AKA Sea Wolf who jumps up to #3 this week on the Songs chart. Early supporters include: WBER Rochester, NY, KITS San Francisco & KCLC St. Louis, MO. New debuts this week: Modest Mouse, Funeral For A Friend & Mark Ronson

Record of The Week: Funeral For A Friend

All five blistering tunes played during the set can be found on the aforementioned debut CD and are available for full session download here. Video

Video The National Boxer (Beggars Banquet)The National are a band of New Yorkers transplanted from Cincinnati, Ohio who are hotly tipped for not only US success, but world domination. Their first Beggars Banquet release, Alligator became one of the most widely discussed and critically acclaimed independent albums of 2005. BUT FEAR NOT. Somehow, The National avoid the sophomore curse all together and manage to bring the noise on Boxer. SPIN says, “The National traffic in poignant moments of heartbreak and regret, but pain has rarely sounded so beautiful” while Rolling Stone adds, “ringing guitars, chamber strings and singer Matt Berninger’s rich baritone that suggests Interpol fronted by Leonard Cohen.” True, true. Watch the video for first single, “Mistaken For Strangers” here. Boxer Release date: May 22, 2007

Brett Westnedge
Brett Westnedge – WPGU Champaign, IL

Recent graduate Brett Westnedge was a senior studying advertising at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign who plans to begin interning at The Polyvinyl Record Company at some point in the near future. Despite his recent degree in Advertising, Brett has plans of eventually landing an “actual job” in the world of A&R or Promotion. During his sophomore year, Brett began working the morning shift at ‘PGU and eventually earned Music Anorak an evening slot hosting the infamous new music show “Off The Record.” Westnedge is one of many DJ’s over the years to proudly carry on the OTR tradition playing b-sides, remixes, imports, and other deep cuts from artists already in rotation on WPGU. Post graduation, Brett is still at the station for the next few months and will most likely not be taking your calls, but hey, he’s playing some amazing releases from the likes of Of Montreal, The Arcade Fire, Digitalism, Peter, Bjorn & John, Fujiya & Miyagi & The Teenagers.
