“Four
Winds” Saddles The Charts
I
was listening to Indie 1031 Los Angeles the other day when a
song came on the air that had more than just a slight country twang
to it… After 20 seconds of listening it was pretty obvious
that it was new single, “Four Winds” from the infamous
Bright Eyes AKA Conor Obherst. The single is off the
brilliant Bright Eyes EP, Four Winds on uber-indie Saddle
Creek records which makes an amazing debut this week at #1
(Mediaguide Songs Chart) with new music show support from Bill
Hanson (WQXA York, PA), Elliott Garstin (WNNX
Atlanta) & Ryan Manno (WKQX Chicago) among a slew
of others. However, Four Winds gets beat down on the Album
chart by The Arcade Fire’s Neon Bible which is
seeing support from almost the entire new music show panel. Changing
dials a bit, it was such a nice surprise to hear Peter Bjorn and
John’s “Young Folks” on KROQ Los Angeles
this morning… So far the world famous stick has spun PB&J
a total of 37 times, but decreases play on the single from 11 to 10
spins this past week. After five weeks, both PB&J’s
full-length Writer’s Block & “Young Folks”
hang on both Mediaguide charts in the Top 10. Speaking of
KROQ…. Operation’s Director Spud from Live 105
will be joining me on Friday for Rodney Bingemheimer’s
AKA Rodney on The ROQ’s big day in Hollywood (11:30am)
as he finally gets his well deserved star on the Walk of Fame.
We’ll also be attending Rodney’s ROQ of Fame with
The Donna’s & Red Kross at the Henry Fonda
Theatre in Hollywood later that night… Check out details
here.
Until next week…

| Jeff Marks |
Jeff
Marks – Regional Director Promotion - Hollywood Records
"From Vons To Riches"
After
completing his BA in History, Jeff Marks AKA The Godfather
began earning his teaching credential, but was abruptly pulled over
to the dark side by college buddy Mark Chotiner. Mark was
interning at KROQ Los Angeles & Poylgram and
convinced Mark to give the music business a shot. Hiss then boss Kyle
Wong set Jeff up with an internship at the now defunct Album
Network working under Brian Boyd who was running the
“EXPANDO” (Alternative) Department.
It
was this internship that introduced Jeff to label Promo Reps. and
allowed him to attend all of the major music conventions and hotly
tipped shows. With seven months of trade experience under his belt,
The Godfather segued into the fast paced world of the Polygram
college promo department under the watchful eyes of Kyle Wong, Howie
“Pink Straw” Miura & Steve Leeds. Howie eventually
set up an interview for Jeff with Lynn McDonnell, Dave
“Rambo” Darus & Michael Papale at
Interscope records for the college and metal department
position. In no time, Jeff was on the Interscope firing lines
slinging records to arrogant college music directors and making a
name for himself. In 1995 Jeff got an offer he couldn’t refuse.
Hollywood Records’ John Fagot gave him the opportunity to run
the college and specialty departments as well overseeing National
Commercial Radio in 12 markets (all formats). 3 years later Dan
Hubbert replaced Fagot as Sr. VP Promotion and Marks was shipped off
to Miami to do regional promotion in the south. Since 2002 Jeff has
been handling regional duties in Los Angeles under the guidance of
Justin Fontaine, his current SR. VP. That’s 12 years of promo
life and Jeff still has a full head of hair!
(Editors Note: Wikipedia shows that Jeff Marks and Sat Bisla got their real start in the music business listening to elevator music at Vons in Fresno)

Riddle
me this: Have It Your Way© but Don’t
Call It A Phone© so Just Do It©
because I’m Lovin It, Zoom Zoom©.
Taglines and slogans are things that corporate America salivate over,
so much so that they spend millions of dollars a year wrapped up in
board meetings with advertising agencies slaving away trying to think
of a great way to brand their company in the minds of the consumers.
What does this little tidbit have to do with blogs? Nothing.
However, this week’s featured blog just so happens to boast the
fantastic tagline of “Sharing the Sharing©”,
fucking brilliant!! Seriously, find a blog with a better tagline and
I’ll buy you a Whopper©. This blog
has everything you would hope for in a blog: simplicity, fresh
content, great blog links, naked photos of Bill Gates, an embedded
google search and that oh-so-sweet tagline. Had enough?
Ready to check it out? Good. Just Do It©.
Go on, click away: 3Hive
